sower

Come, friends,
let us be sowers of love.

Like the farmer
who diligently sows seed,
let us persistently
sow seeds of God’s love

for ourselves and
for others.

Let us throw wide.
Let us throw often.
Let us throw generous.

Let us not be concerned
with where our seed lands:

If it falls on rocky ground,
let us keep tossing.

If if falls among thorns,
let us keep tossing.

If the birds have a feast,
let us keep tossing.

If it falls into rich soil,
let us praise God!

For we are not the ones to cause growth,
growth is the work of the Spirit.

This, blessed freedom!

Instead, we are the precious holders
of God’s love seed. Our call is simply

to sow.

to sow.

to sow.

To Ponder:

And he told them many things in parables, saying: “Listen! A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seeds fell on the path, and the birds came and ate them up. Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and they sprang up quickly, since they had no depth of soil. But when the sun rose, they were scorched; and since they had no root, they withered away. Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. Other seeds fell on good soil and brought forth grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. Let anyone with ears listen!” Matthew 13:3-9

Reflect upon the varying places in your life where seeds have fallen: the rocky soil, a thorny patch, a feast for others as well the rich soil ready for growth. Offer a prayer to the Spirit of God who is there to guide you in growth and comes along side you in the parched areas.
