Broken Fragments 2

Gracious God,
“Do not be afraid.” I keep coming back to this.
Jesus, you say, “Do not be afraid.”
You say, “You will have trouble. But, take heart! I have overcome the world.”
You say, “A light shines in the darkness and the darkness did not overcome it.”
You tell us to forgive our enemies and pray for our persecutors.
You remind us, “Blessed are the peacemakers.”
At times, Jesus, I don’t know how to be the peacemaker in this crazy world.
This world where broken people try to reign by fear.
Senselessly killing civilians. At times like these, I don’t know what to pray, what to say, what to DO. But, maybe today, I am meant to be peace in my home – a broken fragment of light shining – loving with mercy committed to changing the world through the action I can do. Not through ragged words or hateful vengeance.
Lord, it’s me and you, right now.
What is my prayer for the world?
My prayer for the world begins with peace.
Help our world to rise up in love.
Help our world to rise up in support.
Help us to rise strong with compassionate action
leaving our lukewarm response behind.
Help us encourage others.
Help us to recognize that the tiny actions played out in our homes
create a ripple effect throughout our troubled world.
Help us to see injustice and be brave fragments of light fighting the good fight.
I’m praying for victims of violence worldwide.
This morning, words don’t seem enough.
Maybe, sitting in silence, or looking into the eyes of another, or planting a tree is the action called for. Maybe, just remembering you, your love and going out to do likewise is what’s called for.
Jesus, make haste and come quick. Be by our side. Give our world your peace, your love. Help the helpers. Be with the military worldwide. Be with our families. Be with our leaders. Guide our children to your loving light so their future shines bright.
And, Jesus, help us to not be afraid.
Amen.
